Hoist Pre-Operation Inspection Checklist

Walk the operator through the mandatory review before starting a hoist or overhead crane: hook, chain, wire rope, brakes, controls and limit switches. Each point is logged as passed, failed or needing attention, and photos can be attached as proof. A signature closes the record for the safety file.

Check the pendant support chain or cord

Check the batteries and harness on the remote control device

Inspect the hook and safety latch

Inspect the wire rope or chains for kinks, broken links or other damage

Confirm the wire rope or chain sits correctly in its grooves

Confirm the chain bucket is secured with its tether

Confirm the load rating is marked on the hoist and supporting structure

Check the controls: auto-return types must go back to neutral when released

Verify that the upper and lower limit switches work

Check the hoist, trolley and bridge brakes

Test every motion

Check that the festoon cable and its trolley run properly
